A Hillsville house appears to be a total loss after a fire Wednesday, September 3.

Fortunately, Hillsville Volunteer Fire Department Chief Donnie Spangler said nobody appeared to be in the residence. The call came in at approximately 1 p.m. of a possible structure fire at 294 Weddle Street, which is just off Howlett Street.

“We got the initial call of a possible structure fire,” Spangler said. “Then later the call came in that flames were showing. There is a lot of smoke and fire damage.”

Spangler did not know the name of the property owner at the scene and he was unsure of the cause of the fire. In total, nine different fire trucks responded from the Hillsville Fire Department, Carroll County Fire Department and the Galax Fire Department, as well as Carroll EMS.
