There’s been a void among local business when it comes to clothing for teenagers and young women; however, that void appears to have been filled with the opening two weeks ago of Unibugz on Main Street in Hillsville.
“Most of the stuff we have here you would have to drive an hour to the malls to find,” said Tim Phillips, who, along with his wife, Joni, owns the business. “We’re just trying to bring something to the area. It’s a good deal. We have clothes you would find at the mall, but you’re not paying mall prices.”
Among the brand names available at Unibugz are Aeropostale, Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, American Eagle, Gilly Hicks and Victoria’s Secret. All the merchandise is new, stressed Phillips, not used.
“We started out online, mainly on eBay and Amazon, and quickly escalated to this,” he said. “We were operating out of a small room in our home and didn’t have enough space. We decided we needed a location where people could see our clothing, so I got in the car and began driving. When I saw this location was for rent, I thought ‘Let’s do this.’”
Although the present merchandise is directed at teenagers and young women, Joni Phillips said the store would soon expand to include a women’s boutique and eventually clothing for males.
“I’ve had a lot of women say there’s not a women’s boutique in the area. We hope soon to be selling the New York & Company and Charter Club brands.”
Unibugz, which is located at 211 North Main Street, is open from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday. The store’s phone number is 730-0304.
