A brawl marred Carroll County’s varsity boys’ basketball game with Salem on Friday night with about four minutes left.
Carroll’s Winston Giles was fouled hard in an already chippy game, then things escalated. Salem’s NaQuan Poindexter was ejected, teammate Troy Manns picked up his fifth foul in the melee, and both teams were hit with two technicals. Hillsville Police Officer Wesley Yonce and Carroll County Resource Officers Mike Combs and Kevin Kemp had to get involved to break up the fight. Carroll County head coach Brad Hawks said Carroll senior Gunnar Beamer was punched by Salem’s Troy Manns in the episode. Salem won 82-73.
