The Virginia State Police arrested Bobby Eugene Wagner, Jr, age 18, on two counts of arson on Monday.
According to the Virginia State Police, the arrest stems from two brush fires that occurred on January 26 and 27 in the area of Double Cabin Road & Buckhorn Road of Carroll County. The Hillsville Fire Department responded to the area on the afternoon of January 26 to battle a brush and field fire involving approximately two acres belonging to Isaac Stilwell. The following afternoon of January 27th, the fire department was called to the same location again, but at that time the fire was much smaller.
Fire Department officials requested the Virginia State Police to respond to investigate the matter. Trooper Cameron Keesling and his bloodhound Sherlock responded along with Trooper Matt Cochran and Department of Forestry Officer David Edwards. Kessling and his bloodhound Sherlock conducted a track from the scene, accompanied by Trooper Cochran, and fire department members Andy Utt and Cullen Stanberry. According to State Police, the canine led the officers to a residence at 7595 Double Cabin Road, where the canine alerted on Wagner when he came outside to meet the officers.
State Police personnel and Forestry Officer Edwards subsequently arrested Wagner on two counts of arson, destruction of property, obstruction of justice, trespassing and two game violations. Wagner was released on bond.
