The body of a missing Surry County, N.C., man was found on Dec. 7 near mile post marker 202 of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Grover Cleveland Davis, 76, had been missing since shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 5. Davis reportedly suffered from dementia or another cognitive impairment.
Carroll County Deputy Cody Edwards found Davis lying on the ground at about 10:45 a.m. on Dec. 7 near the gold-colored 1994 Nissan Pathfinder he was reported driving.
“It looked as if Davis had turned around at some nearby cabins near the first overlook and tried to drive up a bank before getting stuck,” said Carroll County Sheriff J.B. Gardner. “Davis was out of his car and definitely had been exposed to the elements.”
Davis’ body was picked up by Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel and will probably be sent to the state coroner for an autopsy, according to Gardner.
