A Washington County man has been sentenced to serve five years in prison after pleading guilty to computer solicitation of a minor in Carroll County.
Darius Lee Foran, Sr., 50, of Blue Springs Road in Meadowview, pled guilty to one count of computer solicitation of a minor less than 15 years old April 11 in Carroll County Circuit Court according to Carroll County Commonwealth’s Attorney Nathan H. Lyons. Lyons said Judge Brett Geisler imposed a mandatory sentence of five years for the charge and ordered Foran to register as a sex offender. Geisler also ordered Foran to be placed on probation upon his release for a period of at least five years. Lyons and Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Bethany Long prosecuted the case.
According to Washington County Commonwealth’s Attorney Josh Cumbow, Foran is also awaiting trial there for 50 counts of possession of child pornography and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Foran’s charge in Carroll County came as a result of a joint effort between member agencies of the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (SOVA-ICAC). Foran was arrested June 1, 2016 by the Hillsville Police Department.
According to a press release at the time of the arrest, Hillsville Police Detective Robert Martin affected the arrest of Foran after Foran had traveled from Washington County to Hillsville to meet what he expected to be a female subject under the age of 15 whom he had been communicating with online. Detective Martin’s continued investigative efforts into Foran’s actions led him to contact Lieutenant J. S. Blevins of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
“That contact initiated an investigation, which ultimately led to a search warrant being executed at Foran’s home on June 10 (in 2016). The search resulted in the seizure of computers, multiple electronic storage devices and firearms. The firearms were seized because Foran had a previous felony conviction,” according to the press release. “An examination of the computers and storage devices revealed several thousand images and several videos of child pornography.”
