The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Wytheville Field Office are continuing to investigate the exact cause of an explosion that occurred Thursday morning at a residence near Hillsville.
The incident occurred in the 100 block of Old Mabry Place near the intersection of Double Cabin Road. The Virginia State Police sent an update Thursday afternoon shortly after 3 p.m. stating that state and county investigators are still on the scene. During the course of the investigation, state police say marijuana and an illegal hallucinogenic narcotic were seized from inside the residence.
“At approximately 6:45 a.m. on Thursday, an explosion occurred inside the residence, which was followed by a fire. The Hillsville Volunteer Fire Department and Floyd County Volunteer Fire Department’s Station 2 in Willis and Station 4 in Indian Valley responded to the scene,” a Virginia State Police spokesman said in a press release. “There were four people inside the residence at the time of the explosion. An adult male has been transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in North Carolina for treatment of serious injuries. An adult female and two juveniles were not injured.”
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation at this time.
