Concrete pigs flew Monday afternoon in Cana in connection with a single car accident on U.S. 52 in front of Mountain Man Orchard And Markets.
According to Virginia State Trooper R.B. Phipps, no injuries were reported in connection with the crash, although bystanders were heard to comment the statues were obvious fatalities, unable to even be used for bacon. Phipps said a 2013 Dodge Charger was travelling south on U.S. 52 when the driver took her eyes off the road to look at her passenger. Phipps said the tendency for a driver’s hands to follow their eyes probably led to the Charger going off the road, striking the statues and the businesses’ sign.
One of the statues went airborne for some distance, striking a 1995 Ford which was parked at the scene, causing minor damage to it. The incident occurred at 2:05 p.m. and the driver of the car has been identified as Brenda Kay Rigney, 33, of Cana. She has been charged with failure to maintain control of a vehicle.
