Let Freedom Ring will be the theme of the Town of Hillsville’s Fourth of July Parade.
Everyone is encouraged to deck out their floats as judging will begin at 3:15 p.m. Judging will be held at the Carroll County Government Complex Center. There will be three different categories for judging and money prizes available. The parade will start at Edgewood Drive at 4 p.m. and conclude at the Grover King VFW Post 1115. The Grand Marshal for this year’s parade will be the Carroll County High School state champion softball team.
Following the parade at 4:30, opening ceremonies will take place outside at the VFW. This is where the posting of colors will happen. The national anthem will be sung by Carolyn Honeycutt. The Grand Marshal will then be introduced and welcomed by Hillsville Mayor Greg Crowder.
The VFW doors will open at 5 p.m. At that time, there will be a free community hot dog dinner inside the VFW. Local bands/artists will play inside the VFW until 7 p.m. Outside of the VFW at 6 p.m., Backyard Groove will play on the outside stage.
At 7 p.m., a free watermelon cutting will take place. Fireworks will begin at dusk. The event is sponsored by the Town of Hillsville and the Friends of Hillsville. Several different sponsors have donated for the event, said Jessica Talley of the Friends of Hillsville.
