Without cooperation, Hillsville citizens couldn’t “face the music” at the “Summer Nights Concert & Classic Car Cruise-In” series, which opens on May 21, featuring the Catalinas at 7 p.m.
Town Treasurer and spokesperson for the Friends of Hillsville LeAnna Surratt said the events benefit everyone.
“It’s important because it’s another way to provide an atmosphere for businesses to thrive in and free entertainment for citizens,” said Surratt. ” It’s a win-win for everyone – businesses and citizens.”
She praised the work of Public Works Department members who “put in an extra effort” leading up to the events. This is in addition to the Hillsville Beautification Committee and others regularly sprucing up the town. Refreshments on sale this year will include hot dogs and hamburgers, chips and drinks.
Surratt pointed out local non-profit groups man the concessions with proceeds going to benefit their community service projects. Typically groups earning money for new projects through the concerts and shows include the Beautification Committee, The Hillsville Lions Club and the Carroll County Historical Society. The event is staged through a partnership between the Town and the Friends of Hillsville. She praised the efforts of the Carroll County Cruisers who combined their cruise-in savvy, adding more for citizens to enjoy.
“This year we’re going to offer something different and sell popcorn along with our other concessions,” Surratt said. “We have three major stage sponsors, Porky’s Famous Steak and Buffet, Pizza Perfect and Subway.” She praised the support of all sponsors, many of which get mentioned from the bandstand (as well as on Facebook) for sponsorships over $500.
