A 15-year-old male juvenile has been charged with reckless driving and driving without a license after crashing a vehicle Saturday night in the Laurel community of Carroll County.
According to Virginia State Police Senior Trooper R.D. Horton, the accident occurred at 9:10 p.m. on Pleasant View Road. He said the 15-year-old juvenile was driving a 2002 Chevy Silverado owned by a family member when he ran off the right side of the road and overcorrected before striking a tree and overturning the vehicle “a few times.”
Horton said the juvenile driver’s 10-year-old brother was ejected, suffering a leg fracture and other injuries. The trooper added that one of the rescue squads on the scene requested a helicopter to fly out the 10-year-old, but one wasn’t available.
“So they transported him to Twin County Regional Hospital and he was transported from there to Baptist in Winston-Salem (N.C.). I don’t think the injuries were life threatening,” Horton said.
Horton said the driver was also injured as was his 5-year-old juvenile sister. A 15-year-old female juvenile, who Horton said witnesses described as the driver’s girlfriend, was also injured. He said all the juveniles suffered minor injuries except for the 10-year-old boy. None of their names were released due to their age, Horton said, adding that the accident remains under investigation.
