A 60-year-old Max Meadows man was killed Wednesday evening, June 18 after his motorcycle struck a tree on Route 100 in Sylvatus.

According to Virginia State Police Senior Trooper J.R. Alderman, the accident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Route 100. Wilbourn Stanley Sisk was operating a 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle north on Route 100 when he ran off the road north of Deer Ridge Road to the right and struck a tree.

Alderman said Sisk’s motorcycle was the only vehicle involved. A female passenger, Mikki Delp, 25, of Independence, was also thrown from the motorcycle, Alderman said. She was being treated for injuries at the scene, but Alderman said they were not life threatening.

Alderman said he was unsure of the reason for the accident, but excessive speed did not appear to be a contributing factor.

The Virginia State Police, Hillsville Fire Department and other rescue agencies responded to the scene.
