Hillsville Mayor to enter plea in Bristol case

June 12, 2014

Hillsville Mayor Greg Crowder will enter a plea on June 20 in Bristol Circuit Court for the charge of impersonating a law officer.

Crowder was found guilty of the charge on January 9 by Judge Blake McKinney after a court hearing in Bristol General District Court and sentenced to 90 days in jail, with 60 days suspended, and a $500 fine, stemming from a March 14, 2013 incident that led to his arrest last August.

Crowder appealed the conviction the same day. He was set to have a jury trial on the appeal in Bristol Circuit Court on Thursday, June 12.

“The jury trial was called off at the last minute and has been continued for his plea,” Bristol Circuit Court Clerk Kelly F. Duffy said Thursday. “He will be entering a plea on June 20th.”

The plea hearing is set for June 20 at 9 a.m. in Bristol Circuit Court.
