Joy Ranch hosts I Love My Mountain Day April 26

April 24, 2014

Joy Ranch will once again host the area wide cleanup effort known as “I Love My Mountain Day” on Sat., April 26.

Non-profit groups can earn money through a special county program for cleaning up area roadsides. Joy Ranch will provide the orange bags and vest and help with the paperwork.

A pep rally begins the event in the Joy Ranch gym at 9:30 am. Each group will then go out to clean their designated area for about two hours, then meet back at Joy Ranch for a free cookout. After the cookout and games, at around 1 pm, there will be a special dedication of “Bucky’s Backyard,” the newly refurbished playground at Joy Ranch. Part of the Lowe’s Home Improvement community project for 2013, the playground has been named in honor of Bucky Lovern, a former resident and longtime supporter of the Christian Children’s Home located at 813 Joy Ranch Road, Woodlawn.

Many have been involved in the project, including BB&T Bank and a mission team from Boston College. Donations of materials, time or money have been received from many individuals, several churches, and the Southwestern Virginia Training Center, Ryder’s Scrap Iron and Metal, and Jerry Russell Asphalt. Charlie Gockel, a supporter from New York, came down with his family for several days, and built a jungle gym. The public is invited, and any non-profit wishing to join the effort can call 276 733-2674 for more information.
