Cana man airlifted from wreck, charged with DUI

A Cana man has been charged with DUI after a single-vehicle accident that resulted in him being airlifted from the scene of an accident in Cana on Thursday.

According to Virginia State Police Senior Trooper S.E. Kinney, the accident occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Meadowbrook Road in Cana, just off Bear Trail. Kinney said Kenneth Leonard, 55, of Cana, was driving a 1985 Ford F-150 pickup truck when he ran off the road a struck a tree.

Kinney said Leonard was injured and was flown out to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. to be treated for injuries. Kinney said he didn’t know the extent of the injuries, but he didn’t believe them to be life threatening.

In addition to the Virginia State Police, Kinney said Cana Rescue Squad and Cana Fire Department responded to the scene. Kinney charged Leonard with DUI after the accident.
