Three first-graders from Courtney Elementary School took time from their Monday afternoon to serve their county and their country.

The three girls were special guests at Monday’s Board of Commissioners meeting. Yadkin’s county commissioners welcomed Hannah Shore, Baylee Armstrong and Emily Lillard to the boardroom to lead the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The girls took their places in the middle of the room and recited the pledge while those in attendance followed their lead. The three then were invited to pose for a photograph with the five county commissioners.

The girls were brought by their families to the event and joined by their teachers Hannah Cox and Bobbie Gardner.

When asked why they were selected to recite the pledge, Shore said, “Because we were good listeners in class.”
