HPD arrests Rigney for attempted rape

The Hillsville Police Department has arrested a Hillsville man for attempted rape and other sexual offenses after a 9-1-1 call on Sunday.

Hillsville Police Chief Greg Bolen said Charles Robert Rigney, 40, of Hillsville was arrested at approximately 5:18 p.m. after HPD was dispatched to a 9-1-1 call. Capt. James Alderman and Master Police Officer Dennis Boyer responded and charged Rigney with attempted rape by threats or intimidation, animate object penetration by threats or intimidation, and sexual battery. Bolen said Rigney was sent to New River Regional Valley Jail to be held without bond after an appearance before the magistrate.
