Hillsville recently received some hopeful economic news when it learned it was one of three locations being considered by expansion by a screen printing business, headquartered in Michigan. The owner of the business was in Hillsville on August 9, touring the town and the facilities at the Carroll County Industrial Park.
If Hillsville is chosen, it would mean 25 jobs during the first year of operation and 40 by the second. The company, which has been in operation since 1994, is “pretty well known in the apparel industry,” said the owner, who wished to remain unnamed, along with his company, at his time. He added that his company does business with “a lot of household names,” and that “products would be going out nationally.”
“This is something I’ve been thinking about for some time because of the growth of the company,” said the owner, adding that there were several factors that led him to look at Hillsville.
“Having natural gas is certainly important, the quality of the workforce is very attractive, and being so close to interstates 77 and 81. A lot of what we do is time sensitive, so logistics is very important.”
Another factor in the equation is the fact that the company’s owner and Mayor Greg Crowder have been friends for 12 years.
“He is a very credible person and it’s a very credible company,” said Crowder. “This office is moving forward. This ain’t all, we have other things in the pipeline.”
